It's a Wrap! (Skirt)

This wrap skirt is so easy to made from two pillowslips.  (I've used two different colours to make instructions easy to follow.)  It can be tied in front, back or even on the side!

1. Requirements

2 pillowslips

1.5 m ribbon

2 sets of hammer-on snap fasteners

2. Cut pillowslips open

Cut both pillowslips along one side and across the bottom.  Trim away any seam allowances.

3. Join pillowslips/insert ribbon

Pin side seams (right sides together), sandwiching ribbon in between. 

4. Stitch and finish sides

Stitch both sides.  Zig-zag stitch or overlock seam allowances together.

5. Mark Darts

With erasable pen, on wrong side, mark four 12 cm lines as shown.

6. Fold Darts

Fold on line marked in previous step and pin.   On top edge, measure 2cm from fold, and draw diagonal line to end of line.  This is your stitching line.

7. Stitch Darts

Start at wide (top) edge.  Backstitch 1 cm, then continue sewing along stitching line, sewing off the edge.  Leave long threads at narrow end.  Tie these in a double knot before clipping.

8. Try it on

Step into tube shape.  I've used clothespegs (or  safety pins) to find position where snaps will be attached at sides.

9. Tie ties and adjust

Ribbons can be tied at front or back.  Move pegs/safety pins until skirt fits comfortably - snug, but not too tight or you'll be  constantly busting those snaps open! 

10. Snap Fasteners

Mark spot for snaps with an x in water-erasable pen.  You'll need 4 parts (pictured) for each snap, a setter and a hammer.

11. How to apply snaps

See instructions given on snap packet.  Basically, poke prong spikes thru fabric using skinny end of setter.  Balance stud or socket on top, cover with setter and hammer.

12. Studs attached

Two studs join the blue panel to the red panel.

13. Zigzag hem

(If you want to shorten your skirt to a mini, cut length evenly all round now.)  Zig-zag stitch or serge bottom edge of skirt.

14. Finish hem

Turn up 2cm on the wrong side.  Iron & pin.  Stitch 1 cm from edge.
